An Untitled Poem

Today’s the day. I’ve decided to put my heart on my sleeve and share one of my pieces with the world. If you read my piece on Open Mics, you already know I’ve been writing poetry since the seventh grade. That’s about seven years. This is basically my lucky year for poetry.

So, here it goes:

I haven’t been writing lately
and that’s because I’m
scared of what I have to say
scared of the way my face changes
eyes puffy
Denzel tear streaming
more like flowing
down my cheek

I am scared to write
these things down
and even scareder
to say them aloud

But today, I decided
to be brave
I picked up this #2 pencil
and I let my hand move
the words staining the page
faster than the tears
shrouding my vision

So I write and I write
until my hand starts to cramp
and I can’t even tell
if any of this is good
poetry

But I keep writing
until my eyes are dry
the lids heavy

I feel light now
like a cargo boat
that has been emptied

Light like the bread basket
at Olive Garden
after the first five minutes

Light like the child
I once was

I have nothing
to weigh me down
but would that mean
I have nothing
to keep me grounded

What did you think of this piece?

Are you a poet?

Do you have any advice?

Let me know in the comments, let’s chat!

Feedback is much appreciated!

Some may call me a critic, but then again, everyone's a critic. This blog is dedicated to my reviews, whether they be book reviews, movie reviews, product reviews, or all the reviews. Did I say reviews enough?
